Juvederm Lip Treatments
- Posted on: Aug 8 2018
Just like any beauty procedure, there’s always proper treatment to be done to sustain a longer-lasting outcome. For lip fillers, there are several things to expect during and after your JUVÉDERM Lip Treatments.
What is JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM ® XC injectable gel is a USDA-approved dermal filler that, according to its manufacturer, Allergan, Inc., is designed to “temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds,” in people older than 21. Unlike the original JUVÉDERM injectable gel, JUVÉDERM XC is infused with lidocaine to make its injection more comfortable. For the lip injection, a fine needle is used under the skin in the specific area the patient wants to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds.
The injection procedure takes about 15 minutes in a doctor’s office. Since JUVÉDERM XC contains lidocaine to improve comfort, an anesthetic may not be needed, but a provider still may use one on the area to be treated before giving the injection.
What should I expect after my JUVÉDERM Lip Treatments?
For the first 24 hours after the treatment, patients should avoid strenuous activity, extreme sun or heat exposure, and alcohol consumption to reduce any risk of complications. If you do receive any irritation, the majority of complications are tolerable and are NOT permanent.
Some of the common side effects that people experience are:
You have to remember that the lips are such a delicate and sensitive area. Because of that, it is very likely that you will experience some of these side effects, but there are steps you can take to prevent it from happening.
Steps to minimize side-effects:
- Without a lot of pressure, apply ice to applied area
- Reduce facial expressions and lip pursing for up to 48 hrs
- Avoid sun exposure if bruising
- Keep head elevated when sleeping
- Stay Hydrated
Lip Filler results tend to last 6-9 months, and, in some case, up to a year. Results may vary and supplemental touch up may be required to achieve and maintain personal preference.
