There are many great options that are out there if you are looking to enhance your curves and look your absolute best. One of the great treatment options that surgeons have been turning to more and more in recent years involves the careful transfer of a patient’s own fat in order to enhance overall appearance. This is known by a variety of names, but in many cases people refer to it as fat grafting, fat transfer, and microlipoinjection. For a number of patients, they’ve found that this is a great alternative or supplement to breast augmentation surgery.
When you meet with a skilled plastic surgeon, you can go over all of these matters in greater detail. Right now we’d like to cover some of the basics of fat transfer for breast enhancement so that you know exactly what to expect from the treatment process.
Let’s look at the different steps in the treatment process right now.
Step One – The Initial Consultation
The first step of the process is finding out if you are an ideal candidate. Since there is some fat removal necessary to perform the fat grafting breast augmentation, it’s important that the patient have some amount of excess body fat that can be removed and injected. Patients with very low body fat may not be good for this treatment.
Step Two – Removing Fat from the Donor Area
The next step is using liposuction to extract the fat. Many times the donor area that is used is the abdominal area or the buttocks. The liposuction will be performed under local anesthetic.
Step Three – Purifying the Extracted Fat
Once the fat is removed, it’s important for it to be purified. This is accomplished through centrifugal force, separating the fat from blood as well as any anesthetic or other non-essential fluids for injection.
Step Four – Injection of the Fat
When the fat is ready to be injected, the surgeon will carefully make precise injections into the breast area to improve shape and enhance volume. Sometimes the fat injection will be performed on its own, though it’s also a great option for improving the results of a traditional breast augmentation surgery, making sure that the breast implants look more like natural breast tissue.
Step Five – Repeat Treatments As Needed
Fat reabsorption is common with fat grafting procedures, with up to half of the added volume in fat diminishing with time. In order to achieve the best possible aesthetic results, multiple treatments may be needed, though they are all performed with ease as an outpatient procedure.
