Avoid Sitting for 2 Weeks
- Posted on: Aug 15 2017
Brazilian Butt lift surgery has recently become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Women, and some men have gained the freedom they needed to get a rounder, more sculpted backside thanks to this fat grafting procedure. Does it get any easier – or more natural – than taking fat from one body part and putting it into another? The mere idea of padding up the buttocks with fat from your own body can send your hopes sky-high; at least until you hear that you must avoid sitting for 2 weeks after this procedure. Ya. That’s a bummer, but necessary for your bum. Here, we want to point out that the weeks after BBL are not all that tragic.
Weeks 1 and 2
It’s true. Should you choose to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift to sculpt your derriere, you will be advised to avoid sitting on the buttocks for two weeks, and then some. More on that in a minute. The reason that sitting is detrimental during weeks 1 and 2 is that the fat cells that are introduced into the buttocks are unstable. They need to integrate into their new surroundings. This requires circulation, which is inhibited when we sit. It isn’t so much that sitting would cause fat cells to move to the sides, but that sitting may diminish the number of fat cells that survive the transplant.
During the first two weeks after BBL, you will be able to use the restroom, and you can sit for short periods if you absolutely must. This can be done only with a proper cushion, which we can discuss with you before your surgery. You will also be encouraged to walk, but not exercise. Walking improves blood flow and thus progresses the healing process.
Weeks 3 and 4
At around the third week after surgery, patients may be able to sit for slightly longer periods with the support of a good cushion. Direct pressure on the buttocks should still be limited as much as possible. Walking can increase, and some patients may begin mild exercise such as light weight-lifting (probably no squats, though!). Beyond three weeks, physical activity can continually increase. Some patients like to postpone fat-burning exercise such as running a little longer to give their new fat cells the best possible chance for long-term survival.
