Breast Augmentation Recovery

Any surgery that you undergo carries a certain level of risk, particularly during the post-surgical recovery period. With that said, though, you can greatly reduce the risk for infection and other complications if you follow the instructions that we provide. During your consultation with Edina plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher J. Kovanda, we’ll go over what to do before surgery and after surgery to ensure that your recovery is quick and free from problems. It’s important to us that you are relatively comfortable as you heal and that you well-informed every step of the way.

The Recovery Process

Given how popular breast enhancement surgery with our patients, we’d like to take some time right now to go over the recovery process for breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Kovanda will be able to cover these topics in greater detail during the consultation but this brief overview of the breast augmentation healing progress should give you a good idea of what to expect.

In the first 24 to 48 hours after Edina breast augmentation surgery, it’s important that you avoid physical activities and rest. You’ll likely experience some level of pain and discomfort in this first day or two, but this can be managed with pain relievers. It’s ideal if you can have a family member or a friend monitor you during the first few days after surgery. He or she will be able to run errands and ensure that you are doing okay.

A few days after surgery, gauze surgical dressings will be removed and replaced with a special surgical bra. This bra will provide support and comfort while you are healing over the next few weeks. Stitches will likely be removed after seven to ten days.

Ease Into Your Routine

In the weeks that follow, it’s important that you ease into your normal routine. Your breasts could be swollen or extremely sensitive for a few weeks, so it’s important to avoid too physical contact involving the breasts until this subsides. In most cases, patients will be able to resume normal physical activities a month after surgery, but each case will vary. Healing times for breast enlargement surgery are different depending on the surgical methods used.

This is just a brief overview, so it’s important that you undergo a full consultation to learn more about breast implants and the post-surgical recovery period. For more information, contact Maple Grove and Edina cosmetic surgeon Dr. Christopher J. Kovanda today.
