Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that treats a variety of skin conditions. Micro-wounds are created in the skin, which promotes natural collagen production.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Dr. Kovanda uses Fractional RF Microneedling, which utilizes insulated microneedles that are inserted at precise, controlled depths. This ensures that the treatment is safe no matter your skin type.
The microneedling procedure takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Some results are visible after one treatment, but Dr. Kovanda typically recommends about three treatments before significant results appear.
Improvements are typically noticeable 6-8 weeks after treatment, but these vary according to the condition you are treating.
What Can Microneedling Treat?
Microneedling treats a variety of skin conditions, including
- Fine lines and moderate wrinkles
- Uneven texture, tone & color
- Striae (stretch marks)
- Traumatic and surgical scars
- Photo aging
- Mild to moderate skin laxity
Recovering from Microneedling
Patients immediately notice that the skin is bright red after treatment. INTRAcel microneedles are designed to minimize discomfort and downtime after treatment, however, some mild skin irritation and redness in the days following is expected. Patients can return to their normal routines immediately after receiving microneedling. However, some choose to apply makeup to hide any redness from the treatment.
Does Microneedling Hurt?
Tolerance to microneedling varies from person to person and according to the area being treated. Most find that the process feels similar to sandpaper moved over the skin. Dr. Kovanda may use a topical numbing cream to help ensure comfort.
