As we age, collagen production decreases, causing a more sunken appearance and loss of volume through the midface. In addition, the hands typically show signs of aging over time. Radiesse® is an injectable treatment which can restore a plump, youthful appearance through a quick and minimally invasive procedure.

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is an injectable filler made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel, which is composed of ions of phosphate and calcium. It is used to restore volume to the face. The formula is designed to stimulate collagen growth. After the CaHA in Radiesse® has been absorbed by the body, the collagen will remain for lasting results.

The Radiesse® Procedure

Radiesse® is injected into the face through a small, thin needle. Local anesthesia or lidocaine can be used alongside injections to minimize pain, but minor discomfort is possible. Injections only take about 15 minutes.

What Can Radiesse® Be Used For?

Radiesse® is used to plump the skin. Most often, it is used to fill in wrinkles in the face, particularly around the mouth. However, Radiesse® is also used to restore a youthful appearance in the hands. In some cases, Radiesse® may also be effective at diminishing the appearance of scars.

How Long Does Radiesse® Last?

Radiesse® is among the longest-lasting injectable products available. The ingredients in Radiesse® are not broken down by the body until about 9-15 months have passed. After the results have subsided, patients can choose to receive repeat injections to maintain their appearance.

Unlike other products, however, Radiesse® stimulates collagen production. This means that some results will remain after the product has broken down.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Radiesse® injections are swelling, bruising, and redness, which should subside quickly. Some patients may also experience minor pain or itching after their treatment. After receiving injections, you can return to normal activities, such as work, immediately if you choose. However, it’s best to wait at least 24 hours before strenuous activity, such as exercise routines.
