What is SkinPen?
SkinPen’s unique microneedling technology helps to improve damaged or aging skin by utilizing the body’s healing response. The lightweight and ergonomic design of the SkinPen® in conjunction with the vertical delivery of the needles allows physicians/skin care providers to use the device to treat hard-to-reach places that other dermal rollers cannot.
The SkinPen® can specifically target delicate areas around the nose and mouth to assist in the collagen remodeling process. SkinPen® uses sterile, disposable needle cartridges that accommodate all skin types and needs. This specific combination reduces patient downtime.
What does Microneedling treat?
- Fine lines and moderate wrinkles
- Uneven texture, tone & color
- Striae (stretch marks)
- Traumatic and surgical scars
- Photo aging
- Mild to moderate skin laxity
Does the treatment hurt?
Most SkinPen® providers apply a topical anesthetic to the skin prior to the procedure. This allows for a relatively pain-free experience. Ask your skincare professional what they do to ensure patient comfort during the microneedling procedure.
How long does it take?
The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of the treated area.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of procedures required will be determined by your skincare professional based upon your individual procedure goals and the overall health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of three procedures spaced about four weeks apart. Your provider will develop a procedure and maintenance plan specific to you to help maintain the rejuvenating effects.
When will I see results?
Patients may notice healthier looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress through the course of several weeks. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to six months following your final session.
What is the downtime?
The total healing time depends on each individual patient. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) for two-to-four days. Some patients may heal completely in 24 hours. Click on the SkinPen® procedure page to see actual patient results up to three days post-procedure.
Is there anyone who should not use SkinPen?
As with any procedure, patients should take precaution when determining whether the SkinPen® procedure is right for them. Consult your provider to discuss whether SkinPen® is right for you.
